Animal Fat into Diesel Fuel

Apparently, diesel fuel may be getting a little cheaper, or at least smell different. Tyson Foods Inc,. the world’s largest meat company, is planning a project with ConocoPhillips to convert animal fat into diesel fuel. Production starts in December 2007.

Tyson will provide fat from an Amarillo, Texas beef plant to a ConocoPhillips refinery in Borger, Texas.

They also are opening a biofuel plant at an undisclosed location in Louisiana as part of a venture with Syntroleum Corporation, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company. This venture will also produce fuel from animal fat and will be completed in 2010 with an estimated cost of $150 million.

The ventures are a way for Tyson to increase revenue and the value of their shares, as well as to expand into international business.
