A 22-year old delivery truck driver, Steve Flaig, who was given up for adoption at birth in 1985, began the search for his birth mother, unaware of how close she really was.

He found his birth mother’s name, Christine Tallady, through an open adoption record. Typing in her name on the internet, he found her home address was just a full blocks away from the Lowe’s store where he worked. After telling his boss the name of his birth mother, Flaig was stunned to learn that it was the name of the head cashier at Lowe’s. It took almost two months for Flaig to get the courage to talk to her, supplied with this new information about their relation.

On the second week in December 2007, they met as mother and son for the first time. Tallady says that she hoped her son would find her, and often thought of him over the years, particularly on his birthday.

Talladay said, “I have a complete family now, all my kids. It’s a perfect time of year. It’s the best Christmas present ever.”

A former beauty queen has gone from the spotlight on the runway to behind the bright lights on the freeway. The winner of 2005 Miss Arkansas, Eudora Mosby-Evans, has decided to take up trucking as her new career. In 2006, with a degree from UCA, Eudora crowned a new Miss Arkansas and turned to the real world for a job.

Unfortunately, Eudora was faced with environments of careers that she didn’t want to be in- such as in a cubicle, behind a computer, or on her feet all day. Instead of settling for a job, what did she do?

She says, “Well, we’ve tried everything else, might as well try trucks, maybe that will be a fit.”

Now her and her newly hitched husband, Larry Evans, take turns driving across the United States. They’ve seen 42 states so far, and are generally happy traveling together on their extended honeymoon.

Eudora warns though, “You think you know a person when you live with them. You hope you know them if you marry them. Get in a truck with them. Try that.”

Overall, trucking seems to fit this couple. Happy trucking to them both!

Tyson will provide fat from an Amarillo, Texas beef plant to a ConocoPhillips refinery in Borger, Texas.

They also are opening a biofuel plant at an undisclosed location in Louisiana as part of a venture with Syntroleum Corporation, a Tulsa, Oklahoma-based company. This venture will also produce fuel from animal fat and will be completed in 2010 with an estimated cost of $150 million.

The ventures are a way for Tyson to increase revenue and the value of their shares, as well as to expand into international business.

If you’ve heard about the previous CMT series, “Trick My Truck”, you’ll be excited to hear that there is a new show called “Truck My Trucker” premiering Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 pm ET/PT. This series presents six epsiodes of makeovers on truckers. The show gives the featured truckers a physical and emotional overhaul for cash, prizes, and a healthy living map.

In each episode, the truckers are challenged to change their image and their lifestyle. The truckers are confronted about their unhealthy habits living on the road and encouraged to change their routines. A confessional camera (think reality TV) tracks their progress over the few weeks.

In the end, they return for a physical transformation and a catwalk finale to show their new selves in front of family, friends, and America. Guiney, also known as host of “The Bachelor,” and his team judge who has committed and changed the most to the new lifestyle.
Just a few miles south of the <st1:street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">Artic Circle</st1:address></st1:street> are diamond mines. Given the terrain of the landscape, paved roads are few and far between so the truck drivers haul vital supplies to the mines over frozen lakes that double as roads during the winter; these ice roads are the only way these supplies can get to the mines.

Through the years, these frozen roads have been the cause of the death of dozens of truck drivers. So why would someone want to risk their life as an ice road trucker? One word: money. It is literally a dash for cash, as drivers are paid substantially for each load they can successfully deliver within the short season the lakes remain frozen.

There are a number of different reasons people become truck drivers. Whether the monetary gain, health benefits, or the sense of freedom the open road brings, perhaps a truck driver job within the commercial trucking industry is just for you. Read on…

Competitive Wages – An increasing shortage of available truck drivers is forcing trucking companies to offer higher, more competitive salaries in order to entice new drivers. New drivers make an average of $35,000 annually, an income that substantially increases very quickly. Typically paid per mile, the more miles logged, the more drivers are paid. Veteran drivers who operate as independent contractors can earn more than $100,000 each year. Many trucking companies are also offering signing bonuses and other incentives when drivers sign up with them

Benefits – Another incentive to get new drivers; companies are offering good benefits and insurance coverage for drivers. This may include 401(k), long and short term disability insurance, health insurance, and workers compensation.

See the Country – How many states have you actually been to? The United States is home to some of the most scenic places in the world, including The Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, the Pacific Coast, and New England. Many truckers love traveling around and exploring the country. If driving from coast to coast isn’t for you, perhaps a regional driving job is for you. Most companies have jobs available with driving limited to one specific region or area of the country.

Be Your Own Boss - Break free from conventional cubicle restrictions. Truck drivers make their own hours, are in charge of their schedule, and can work as much or as little as they want.
