Why Become a Truck Driver?

There are a number of different reasons people become truck drivers.  Whether the monetary gain, health benefits, or the sense of freedom the open road brings, perhaps a truck driver job within the commercial trucking industry is just for you.  Read on…

Competitive Wages – An increasing shortage of available truck drivers is forcing trucking companies to offer higher, more competitive salaries in order to entice new drivers.  New drivers make an average of $35,000 annually, an income that substantially increases very quickly.  Typically paid per mile, the more miles logged, the more drivers are paid.  Veteran drivers who operate as independent contractors can earn more than $100,000 each year.  Many trucking companies are also offering signing bonuses and other incentives when drivers sign up with them

Benefits – Another incentive to get new drivers; companies are offering good benefits and insurance coverage for drivers.  This may include 401(k), long and short term disability insurance, health insurance, and workers compensation.

See the Country – How many states have you actually been to?  The United States is home to some of the most scenic places in the world, including The Grand Canyon, Sequoia National Park, the Pacific Coast, and New England.  Many truckers love traveling around and exploring the country.  If driving from coast to coast isn’t for you, perhaps a regional driving job is for you.  Most companies have jobs available with driving limited to one specific region or area of the country.

Be Your Own Boss - Break free from conventional cubicle restrictions.  Truck drivers make their own hours, are in charge of their schedule, and can work as much or as little as they want.
